It is intended to increase tourism to more localities, especially smaller towns in rural areas”. But they go even much deeper than that.
There are currently over 130 Pueblos Mágicos in Mexico, each with its own unique charm and character. These towns are located throughout the country and are known for their beautiful landscapes, rich history, and cultural traditions.
There are many reasons to visit Pueblos Mágicos in Mexico. These towns offer a glimpse into traditional Mexican culture and offer visitors the opportunity to experience authentic Mexican cuisine, art, and music. Where are the Pueblos Mágicos of Mexico – Mexico’s Magic Towns ?
There are currently 132 Pueblos Magicos in Mexico spread out across the country in almost every State. The cost of living in these towns is significantly lower than in other parts of Mexico, and a wide variety of local organic foods.
Sixty-two of them are located in the state of México, 18 in Michoacán, 16 in Guanajuato, 11 in Guerrero, 9 in Morelos, 8 in Querétaro, 6 in San Luis Potosí, 5 in Yucatán, 4 in Aguascalientes and 1 each in Aguascalientes, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chiapas, Coahuila, Durango, Estado de México, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco y Tlaxcala. How to Visit a Pueblo Mágico - Magic Town
There are many ways to visit a Pueblo Magico, but the most important thing is to be respectful of the culture and traditions of the people who live there. Here are a few tips for visiting a Magic Town:
- Do your research. Learn about the history and culture of the pueblo before you visit. This will help you appreciate what you see and do while you’re there.
- Dress respectfully. Many pueblos have conservative dress codes, so it’s important to dress appropriately. That doesn’t mean no to tank tops, shorts, or revealing clothing, but it’s good to blend in while still being yourself. If you don’t want to stick out, then don’t do like I did and wear socks with my slides. Mexico is not a big fan of that look, apparently – I have been told while wearing them.
- Be respectful of religious ceremonies. If you’re visiting during a religious festival or ceremony, please be sure to be respectful and avoid taking photos or videos unless it’s explicitly allowed.
- Purchase souvenirs from local shops. Supporting local businesses is one of the best ways to show appreciation for the pueblo’s culture and traditions.
- Have an open mind. A positive attitude will go a long way in making your visit enjoyable for everyone involved! Embrace the way of life and culture where you are.

Mexico's Magic Towns are Magical
What makes the Pueblos Magicos so magical? This will be different for everyone, but to sum it up – This is the real Mexico. Thankfully, that is stuck in time, untouched mainly by the world we now live in, and unapologetically remains a bridge to the past. I wrote previously:
“Let me share a short moment when I knew it was right for me; perhaps you can relate. After seeing a majority of the widely recommended top places to see in Mexico – one day, I found myself lost (google maps said I wasn’t lost, but I was lost) somewhere in the hills of the town of Taxco. Wondering down narrow cobblestone streets, I stumbled upon a small plaza in a neighborhood with a church courtyard. No one was around, and it overlooked the beautiful mountains surrounding the city. It was November, and the weather was a perfect 70 degrees – I sat on a bench watching the pigeons flying in and out of the church steeple, and an older gentleman wondered by offering me a bottle of water. After that, I didn’t see anyone else for the next hour or two, and I just sat there reflecting and enjoying the peace. It was a moment I cannot explain, but it wrapped up everything I felt about Mexico.”
I knew then where I wanted to be – check that – where I was meant to be, Mexico”. Where will you find your moment?!
