I was on my way from GTO during Dia de Muertos to Dolores Hidalgo then on to San Miguel de Allende for a long day trip. Turns out Santa Rosa may have been the highlight of this ambitious agenda. It wasn’t just the surprise cool air that high in the mountains on a summer day, or the majestic panoramic views, or even the abundance of nature, and the vast opportunities to take advantage of that. This wasn’t just any picturesque stop; there was something special about Santa Rosa.

Rather it was the humble surroundings of the Pueblo and its niche craft and art scene. You see this area – along with Dolores Hildalgo is famous for its spectacular pottery and artesian work. Who knew? – I didn’t. Intrigued by this unexpected cultural treasure, I delved deeper to explore the heart and soul of Santa Rosa’s artistic heritage…

My Experience – Although I didn’t have the pleasure of trying my hand at pottery making – I was amazed by the skill and craftsmanship involved. It was a unique and rewarding experience that gave others a deeper appreciation for the town’s artistic heritage.

Best Time to Visit Santa Rosa: Anytime really since it is at such a high elevation it is never really hot but…The best time to visit Santa Rosa Guanajuato is during the dry season, from November to April when the weather is pleasant and ideal for outdoor activities like exploring the town and its attractions. Avg Temps from Dec-Feb 59°, Mar-May 68°, June-Aug 68°, and Sep-Nov 64°. 

Santa Rosa’s high altitude ensures a generally pleasant climate and awaiting you with welcoming arms. 

Where to Stay in Santa Rosa and Getting Around

I didn’t stay in Santa Rosa but I can only imagine waking up in this tranquil setting.

While I didn’t have the chance to experience an overnight stay in Santa Rosa, the town offers charming accommodation options. Hotel Colonial, located in the heart of the town, is a perfect example. Getting Around Santa Rosa: The best way to get around Santa Rosa Guanajuato is by walking or using local transportation, such as taxis or buses to get there. I reached there once by an Uber driver and the last time by a local who does tours.

The town is relatively compact, making it easy to explore on foot, and taxis are readily available for longer distances.
