Favorite Hotels in Mexico

How can I pick ONLY 4 favorite hotels in Mexico? I couldn’t, but I tried. Actually, I had to throw out many equally as good as I have experienced. I will make an honorable mention list, maybe?! It is impossible to choose only a few places to stay in Mexico because the country is so diverse, and each has something unique to offer. But let’s look at a few for your consideration.

Mexico is a large and diverse country with a wide range of hotels to choose from. Here are some general things to consider when looking for a hotel in Mexico:

  • Location: Mexico is a large country, and the location of your hotel will be an important factor in your overall experience. Consider the area where you want to stay, whether it’s a bustling city center or a more secluded beach town.
  • Budget: Mexico offers hotels at a wide range of prices, so it’s essential to determine your budget and look for options that fit within it. Keep in mind that prices can vary depending on the season and other factors.
  • Amenities: Different hotels offer different amenities, so it’s essential to consider what’s important to you. Do you want a hotel with a pool, a fitness center, or a spa? Do you need a hotel that’s pet-friendly or has childcare services?
  • Safety: Mexico has a reputation for being a safe country, but it’s always important to do your research and choose a hotel in a secure area. Look for hotels that have good reviews and are located in areas that are known for being safe.
  • Reviews: Before booking a hotel in Mexico, it’s always a good idea to read reviews from other travelers. This will give you a good idea of what to expect from the hotel and help you make an informed decision.

Puerto Vallarta - Best All-Inclusive Hotel

Puerto Vallarta is a world-renowned tourist destination for many reasons: its beautiful beaches, lush jungles, and vibrant nightlife are just a few things that make this Mexican city so unique. But one of the best things about Vallarta (as the locals call it) is its neighborhoods. Each has its unique flavor and charm.

Puerto Vallarta is a popular beach destination located on the Pacific coast of Mexico, in the state of Jalisco. It is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich cultural heritage. The city is located about 160 miles northwest of Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco. Puerto Vallarta is a popular tourist destination, home to a wide range of hotels, restaurants, and other attractions.

Where are you staying? The “Zone” makes a BIG difference when selecting a place to stay. Puerto Vallarta is home to several vibrant and diverse neighborhoods, each with its unique flavor. From the historic center of town to the modern resort area of Nuevo Vallarta, there’s something for everyone in PV. Here’s a closer look at some of the most popular neighborhoods.

  • North– It has more of a Mexican feel to it. The North Zone of Puerto Vallarta is home to the world-famous Nuevo Vallarta Beach. This luxurious neighborhood is full of high-end hotels, resorts, and restaurants. If you’re looking for a place to relax and enjoy the finer things in life, the North Zone is the perfect spot for you. If you want more integration into the cultural feel, this place is also for you. There is a good mix.
  • El Centro (Downtown)– One of the oldest neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta with an active nightlife. This is the heart of PV, where you’ll find a mix of colonial architecture, traditional Mexican culture, and lively nightlife. The streets are lined with boutique shops, art galleries, and restaurants, and there is always something going on in the plaza.
  • Marina Vallarta– The Mariana is one of the nice neighborhoods with yacht clubs and luxury condos with the marina in the backdrop. This is the place to go for luxury hotels, high-end restaurants, and upscale shopping. The marina is also great for watching the boats come in and out. Many of the jump-off points for excursions start here.
  • Romantic Zone– This neighborhood is my FAVORITE! This Colonia is located close to downtown and Malecon and is highlighted by the pedestrian bridge over the Caule River (and the Caule River Island). The most interesting hotels and close to the beach.
  • Hotel Zone– Full of shopping centers, bars, nightclubs, theaters, and restaurants to accommodate tourists. The Hotel Zone is exactly what it sounds like- a zone full of hotels. They are really nice hotels, to be exact. You will be close to all the action but not exactly in the middle of it. The Hotel Zone is also home to some of Vallarta’s best golf courses.
  • South Zone– As the city kept expanding, many residents were pushed to this more mountainous area with the backdrop of lush jungles. That’s not to say there isn’t much to do and see here. On the contrary- a little farther from the action of downtown BUT closer to some of the most beautiful isolated beaches in Vallarta.

My 4 Favorite Hotels In MexicoBuenaventura Grand Hotel & Spa Puerto Vallarta– may be the most exciting hotel/spa experience in Vallarta. It is the most scenic location, for sure. Is it right for you? Well, let’s see, consider the following: The hotel offers stunning views of the ocean, beautiful suites and a variety of amenities, and best of all… It is located on the beach with those spectacular ocean views. This all-inclusive hotel has an onsite spa, perfect for relaxing after a long day exploring or just being on the beach. And the FOOD! The buffet was served all day, with the option of grilled favorites outside the pool(s).

They have a travel agency onsite, a gym, nightly entertainment in the hotel or on the beach, and much more. The staff catered to your every need and went over and beyond to help their guest. I frequently had them break larger bills for me before taking off to shop nearby. By the time you leave, you will know almost everyone by name.

Mexico City - Top Rated Hotel in Mexico City

Let me start by saying, like Puerto Vallarta; this was an impossible task with all the selections available and different neighborhoods to say in. In fact, this was much more difficult, being one of the world’s largest cities with a population of over 20 million. That’s not a typo, 20 million! The moment you enter Mexico City, you are surrounded by the energy you cannot help but absorb.

Mexico City is the capital and largest city in Mexico. It is known for its vibrant and energetic atmosphere, with a rich history and culture that can be seen in its architecture, art, music, and food. The city is home to a wide range of attractions, including museums, galleries, historic sites, and parks. It is also a major cultural and economic hub, with a thriving business and financial district. Overall, Mexico City is known for its vibrant and dynamic energy, which makes it an exciting and dynamic place to visit.

My 4 Favorite Hotels In MexicoSuites Del Angel– was chosen mainly because of LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, and for a suite, you can’t beat the price. Ideally located close to the Reforma and the iconic landmark El Angel de la Independencia

The suites were a little dated but with a modern bathrooms. The lure of this hotel was if you are traveling with a family (I was definitely not), it is ideal with the rollout couch, full kitchen, and workstation in the large bedroom. And has a balcony overlooking the hustle and bustle of perhaps the most beautiful neighborhood in Mexico.

You would be close to all the attractions yet nestled into a neighborhood with lines and lines of restaurants and shopping. This neighborhood alone made me consider living in Mexico City. I didn’t feel like a tourist in this location and more like a local. You can easily walk to Reforma and Chapultepec Park. El Centro and other attractions are an uber drive away for just a few dollars. YOU WILL LOVE IT THERE!

Taxco - Best Hidden Gem Hotel in Mexico

I’ve never left my heart in San Francisco, but I sure left it in Taxco de Alarcon (Guerrero). Staying in a Pueblo Magico can be very different than staying in one of the more tourist areas in Mexico. And I mean that in a good way! Taxco has a good bit of tourists but mainly from within Mexico. Here you will not have the options of all-inclusive hotels; for the most part, you will be staying at Boutique Hotels.

Taxco is a city in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, located about 120 miles south of Mexico City. It is known for its rich history and cultural heritage, as well as its beautiful colonial architecture and stunning natural scenery. The city is also famous for its production of silver, which has been a major industry in Taxco for centuries. In recent years, Taxco has become a popular tourist destination, and it has been designated as a “Pueblo Mágico” (Magical Town) by the Mexican government.

My 4 Favorite Hotels In MexicoBoutique Pueblo Lindo– For those looking for a more unique experience, the Boutique Pueblo Lindo is a great choice. The hotel is within walking distance of El Centro and offers a truly Mexican experience. This hotel is famous for its panoramic views of the city. The hotel includes a rooftop restaurant, bar, pool, and balconies overlooking the cathedral and the mountains. Or you may enjoy what was my favorite experience, exploring while walking the winding, hilly cobblestone streets where there were discoveries at every turn.

Ajijic - Favorite Pueblo Mágico Hotel

Expat Heaven! I wrote about this special place HERE. You will not find any big hotels here, and that’s just the reason you will want to stay here. This place is also known for its beautiful Boutique Hotels.

Ajijic is a town located on the shores of Lake Chapala in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. It is known for its pleasant climate and beautiful natural surroundings, and it has become a popular destination for expats and retirees from around the world. Ajijic is located about 45 miles south of Guadalajara, the largest city in the state of Jalisco. The town has a rich cultural heritage and a thriving arts community, and it is home to a number of galleries, studios, and workshops.

My 4 Favorite Hotels In Mexico Hotel La Nueva Posada– Finally, the Hotel La Nueva Posada is another excellent choice for those looking for the best hotels in Mexico. This hotel in Ajijic is located on beautiful Lake Chapala. This may be the Mexico you want to see.

You know the charm if you’ve ever stayed in a boutique hotel. This one had that and then some. You will be within walking distance of the Malecon to walk around the lake and shop at the various vendors. Maybe stop at a taco stand or two or three along the way. In fact, you can enjoy the lake views from your balcony. What is the benefit of staying here? You would have the advantage of the full feeling of living like a local.

This hotel is located in a residential neighborhood full of unique restaurants and must-see places. You can walk nearby and see a restaurant, gallery, and residence, all next to one another. It has a very unique layout. Be careful- this was one of the most challenging places to walk, with the rugged cobblestone streets and narrow (and I mean narrow) sidewalks, if you can even call them a sidewalk.

There seemed to be delicious food and culture overload at every turn while walking this pueblo. If you need a break from all the markets and culture, maybe take a short drive to a familiar face nearby and visit Walmart.

Let’s remember our position as a quest in another country and do our best to speak and walk humbly with dignity and respect for our surroundings: we’re the ones coming here to visit or live our best lives, and we, like many people trying to get in another country – are appreciative of the opportunity. Thank you for having me, Mexico

As always, we appreciate you and… Live Con Todo.
